The Olympic flame was lit by three-time Olympic champions: track and field sprinter Marie-José Pérec and judoka Teddy Riner. Instead of the usual bowl, the fire was created in the form of a balloon. The organisers paid tribute to the first hydrogen-filled balloon flight that took place in Paris in 1783.
