44% of Ukrainians spend less on food – poll

Almost half of Ukrainians (44%) say they often try to buy the cheapest products when shopping for food while ignoring their quality.

Details: At the same time, 45% of respondents said they could afford to buy better, though more expensive, products. Another 11% of respondents could not give a particular answer.
The study also showed that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the share of citizens struggling to make their ends meet has increased to 12%, compared to 9% in 2021.
At the same time, the share of those who feel secure but cannot afford large purchases has also increased (from 6% to 9%). The number of those who live within their own means (i.e. people with middle income) but have difficulty buying long-lasting goods, such as furniture or household appliances, has decreased (from 44% to 41%).
Compared to 2005, the share of people living on their salary as single income has increased (from 38% to 54%), and the share of people receiving their main income from pensions or social benefits has decreased (from 38% to 29%).
The poll was conducted face-to-face only in the territories that are controlled by the government of Ukraine and not subjected to active hostilities. A total of 2,016 respondents aged 18 and older were interviewed. The sample’s margin of error does not exceed 2.3%.
Background:
