U.S. poverty spiked in 2022, reversing gains, Census Bureau data shows

The poverty rate increased to 12.4 percent, from 7.8 percent in 2021, reflecting the end of some pandemic programs and the impact of inflation. But the proportion of people lacking health insurance dropped.
