Attack on Hroza village: Russians could believe soldiers were in cafe but they hit civilians

Pravda Ukraine

Russian forces struck a cafe in the village of Hroza in Kharkiv Oblast, presumably thinking that Ukrainian soldiers could be there, but there were only civilians, mostly women.

Source: Dmytro Chubenko, spokesperson for Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office, on air with Radio Svoboda (Liberty) on 6 October

Quote from Chubenko: “The strike was very precise, and a very precise and expensive missile was used, which is not common in Russia.

Based on the motives for the strike, which are currently unknown, it is possible that it was indeed guided by someone from the local area. Because the Russians believed that there would be military personnel at the funeral and wake of the fallen soldier. But there were only civilians, mostly women.”

Details: When asked whether the Russian forces believed that Ukrainian servicemen would be at the wake, Chubenko confirmed it.

This could have been the reason for the precise strike at that place, and Chubenko said: “Yes, yes, that’s why. Exactly as you said”.

Background

  • On 5 October, Russians attacked a cafe in the village of Hroza, Kupiansk district, Kharkiv Oblast. A wake for a deceased soldier was taking place there.
  • Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that the strike was so precise that it is suspected that the attack was guided by one of the local residents.
  • As of 6 October, 52 people were reported dead. Among the dead are the widow and son of the soldier, who was commemorated after his reburial in his native village. The son of the reburied man was also a soldier, he was killed with his wife.
  • A three-day mourning period was declared in Kharkiv Oblast on 6-8 October.
