The German government, through the German development bank KfW, has allocated a grant of 76 million euros to the National Power Company Ukrenergo so as to finance the construction of engineering protection of substations, the installation of new high-voltage equipment and the modernisation of the network on the border with Europe.

Details: Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the chairman of the board of Ukrenergo, said that grant funds will be directed to strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure facilities, their restoration and modernisation, as well as to the construction of new overhead lines.
Quote: “These measures will help to improve the reliability of energy supply to consumers. In addition, the provided financing will help Ukrenergo in the further development of interconnections between the energy systems of Ukraine and Moldova with the energy system of continental Europe,” said Kudrytskyi.
Funding under the grant agreement between KfW and Ukrenergo will support Ukraine’s ability to successfully weather this and the following winter seasons by facilitating rapid reconstruction and the creation of protective structures at substations, noted German Ambassador Martin Jäger.
He added that the second winter season military aid package from Germany, which includes the PATRIOT, IRIS-T and Gepard air defence systems, will help Ukraine protect its critical infrastructure.
In total, Ukrenergo attracted more than 220 million euros of credit and grant funds from KfW for the restoration and reconstruction of substations.
In addition, the German operators of the transmission system (Amprion, TenneT, TrasnetBW and 50 Hertz) provided more than a hundred units of equipment necessary for the repair of main power grids and substations of Ukrenergo.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking at a Rammstein-style meeting this week, said that this winter, Russia will try to repeat its tactics of destroying Ukrainian infrastructure.
