Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has said Russia remains the main threat to Northern Europe.

Details: The Latvian Prime Minister emphasised the need to find solutions that would limit Russian attacks and geopolitics.

Siliņa noted that the security situation in the region is changing, and although new countries are joining NATO, thereby making the alliance stronger, Latvia still faces challenges. For example, potential sabotage against infrastructure facilities or the hybrid war launched by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko’s regime with the smuggling of illegal immigrants across the Latvian border.

Siliņa emphasised that the JEF is a platform where these problems can be voiced and the support provided by countries to Ukraine can be coordinated.

The Joint Expeditionary Force is a multinational expeditionary force created in 2015 by the United Kingdom, covering the military of the Baltic States and all of Northern Europe, including Iceland, as well as the Netherlands.

Background: Speaking at the JEF summit on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the opinion that Ukraine’s successful resistance to Russian aggression opens up prospects for Georgia to be able to liberate its occupied territories in the future.
