Ukraine within EU is strategically beneficial to Hungary, but it tries to get most out of situation

Dmytro Kuleba, Foreign Minister of Ukraine, believes that Hungary will not interfere with Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, since “strategically” it meets Hungarian interests.

Details: According to Kuleba, Hungary’s public positions and statements, in particular regarding Ukraine’s membership in the European Union can be classified as “artificially created nervousness.”
Quote: “Hungary has a very specific goal in this matter. It is connected with the well-known demands of the Hungarian side regarding the Hungarian minority, persons belonging to the Hungarian minority in Ukraine,” he recalled.
The Foreign Minister believes that the strategic interests of Budapest are met by Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, but “tactically they are trying to capitalise on the current state of the negotiation process.”
“As one interlocutor of President Zelenskyy said, there is enough strength in the European Union that they are not influenced by Orban’s handshakes with Putin,” Kuleba concluded.
Last week, Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, commented on the meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Russian President Vladimir Putin in China, during which the former called the Russian war of aggression a “military operation”.
