Background:
- On Thursday, the US House of Representatives approved a military aid package for Israel worth nearly US$14.5 billion, separate from aid for Ukraine.
- Johnson said he would consider the issue of aid to Ukraine along with US border security, preferring to respond to Biden’s requests separately as Republican lawmakers increasingly oppose support for Kyiv.
- The US State Department expressed confidence that the request for funding for Ukraine would pass both houses of Congress.
