The European Commission said that negotiations on the preparation of sanctions were delayed, which did not allow President Ursula von der Leyen to submit a proposal for the 12th package of restrictions against the Russian Federation this week.

Quote: “Negotiations on preparing sanctions can take a bit longer than expected. We certainly hoped that we would be able to get to the presentation of a proposal by today. It has turned out not to be the case,” he said.

Details: However, according to Mamer, discussions on this topic continue, and they “hope to be able to present this very soon”.

At the same time, he refused to give a date when the European Commission would be able to present a new package of sanctions, adding that “very soon” does not mean the next month.

During her speech in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada on 4 November, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, confirmed to the media that the EU will announce its 12th package of sanctions against Russia this week.

Bloomberg has reported that the proposals for the 12th EU sanctions package include restrictions on trade in goods with a total value of about €5 billion.

More than 100 individuals and about 40 legal entities may be included in the new package. A ban on employing Russians in so-called “sensitive” sectors and the repatriation of Russian assets to the EU are also being discussed.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the participants of the EU summit last week to increase sanctions pressure on Russia.
