Details: According to the study, 55% of US citizens surveyed are in favour of allocating additional funds to Kyiv and supplying more military aid.
The poll shows that 26% of respondents said they strongly supported increasing aid to Ukraine, while 29% said they were inclined to support it. At the same time, 43% of respondents were opposed.
Democratic voters are much more supportive of aid to Ukraine: 77% favoured additional funding and military assistance to Kyiv, compared to only 35% of Republican supporters.
Overall, the survey shows that US voters, regardless of party affiliation, are more supportive of increased funding to strengthen security on the US southern border than they are of support for other countries in conflict (74%). By comparison, among other countries, humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip has the most support (58%).
Background:
- Earlier, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin stated that his department would continue to work to get additional funding for Kyiv’s defence and other needs approved by the US Congress.
- Joe Biden’s administration still has about US$5 billion of the budget approved by Congress last year for military assistance from US stockpiles.
- Biden is trying to persuade the US Congress to support aid to both Ukraine and Israel and to approve a new US$106 billion aid package, which includes more than US$61 billion in funding for Ukraine.
- Congressional leaders hope to mobilise votes for additional military aid for Ukraine and Israel, as well as for immigration improvements, before Christmas.
