Editorial: HKFP joins International Press Institute, and the Society of Publishers in Asia
Hong Kong Free Press
Hong Kong Free Press has joined the International Press Institute (IPI) – a 73-year-old global organisation dedicated to the protection of press freedom and improvement of journalistic practices.
The IPI global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists shares a commitment to quality, independent journalism, representing digital, print and broadcast news outlets in nearly 100 countries and territories. It has consultative status with the UN, UNESCO and the Council of Europe.
IPI is also part of the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, a global NGO network that monitors press freedom and free expression violations across the world.
Society of Publishers in Asia
HKFP also joined the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) this summer – the only English-language Hong Kong outlet among its ranks. SOPA was founded in 1982 to “champion freedom of the press, promote excellence in journalism and endorse best practices for publishers operating in the Asia-Pacific region.”
It hosts the prestigious annual SOPA awards, and seeks to uphold media standards and freedoms while celebrating and supporting professional journalism and publishing.
