Political prisoner from era of former pro-Russian president Yanukovych killed in war

Serhii Pavlichenko, a hardcore fan or “ultra” of FC Dynamo Kyiv, has been killed in action at the front. He was convicted together with his father of the alleged murder of a judge in the early 2010s, back during the era of Ukraine’s former pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych.

Details: FC Dynamo Kyiv noted that he was a soldier of the 78th Air Assault Regiment.
Pavlichenko died on 18 November near the village of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

- Pavlichenko and his father were accused of murdering judge Serhii Zubkov.
- In 2012, the Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv sentenced Dmytro Pavlichenko to life imprisonment and his son Serhii to 13 years in prison.
- The Ultras Dynamo Kyiv movement took an active part in the Freedom to the Pavlichenkos campaigns.
- In 2014, the Verkhovna Rada decided to release political prisoners, including Dmytro and Serhii Pavlichenko, who had been convicted of murdering a judge.
