No grounds for considering dismissing Commander-in-Chief Zaluzhnyi – senior Ukrainian official

Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, has stated that there are no grounds for considering the dismissal of Valerii Zaluzhnyi as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Quote: “I believe a disagreement [between Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi – ed.] is impossible. The war is the priority, and there is a transparent chain of command in which the president is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and there is the Commander-in-Chief, the chief operating officer who is in charge of the war itself, if you’ll pardon my terminology.
There is a CEO, the president of the country, who deals with a range of other issues related to the provision of everything that is needed during the war. If there is any conflict, especially on political grounds, it sounds like nonsense to me.”
Details: Podoliak also noted that Ukraine’s partners may be surprised to hear claims of a conflict within Ukraine’s military leadership.
Background:
- According to an article published by The Economist, while trench warfare is a grim reality, Kyiv’s “political battlefield” is growing more tense as Volodymyr Zelenskyy sees Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi as a rival, and political squabbling is being detrimental for Ukraine.
- At the same time, Ukrainska Pravda sources say that Zelenskyy communicates with some commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine directly, bypassing Zaluzhnyi and interfering with his overall command of the army.
