Officials responsible for failed defence industry should be held accountable

Pravda Ukraine

Officials who have hindered the development of the Ukrainian defence industry over the years and failed to prepare Ukraine for a large-scale Russian offensive should be mobilised and sent to the frontline.

Source: Mariia Berlinska, veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Head of the Victory Drones volunteer project at the Dignitas charity foundation and Director of the Aerial Reconnaissance Support Centre, in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda (which will be translated shortly)

Quote: “Why should some people die, while others can sit on some kind of state pension and pretend to be great strategists? They should be held accountable.

Why not form a brigade out of these people? Why are they in a caste of untouchables [sic] who are not called up for any war under any circumstances? These people should go to the front and share the same danger.

Let them experience for themselves what it is like to fight without drones, what it is like to have hundreds of Russian FPVs flying at you and you have nothing to defend yourself with.”

Background:

  • On 24 November, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Defence Minister Rustem Umierov, Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi and ministries to develop a comprehensive plan for mobilising the military.
  • On 1 December, it was discussed how to resolve the problems of mobilisation and demobilisation in Ukraine at the meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
  • Currently, the Verkhovna Rada is discussing the possibility of delivering enlistment notices via email and registered mail.
