Russian pro-war nationalist Girkin afraid of being killed like Prigozhin

Pravda Ukraine

Igor Girkin, a terrorist, Russian pro-war nationalist and former officer, who is in a Russian detention centre, has said he is afraid of repeating the fate of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the former leader of the Wagner Group, who was supposedly killed in a plane crash.

Source: Girkin in an interview with Baza

Details: Girkin believes that the trigger for his arrest was Russia’s external and internal instability, and the fact that the authorities feel their position is precarious: “My arrest happened a month after Prigozhin’s mutiny. I am most afraid that instead of the usual criminal punishment, I will be ‘amnestied’, just like the Povar (Prigozhin – ed.).”

Girkin also noted that after the sentence is released, there will be no place on Earth for him where he would be recognised as a law-abiding citizen.

Quote: “In the West, I have already been recognised as a terrorist after the verdict of the Hague Tribunal. And at home, I will probably face a dubious reputation as an extremist.”

Background:

  • In July, the Russian Meshchansky district court arrested a Russian pro-war nationalist and critic of the Russian authorities Igor Girkin, also known by his nom de guerre Igor Strelkov, on charges of “calls for extremism”.
  • In November, Girkin wrote a letter about the situation at the front while being in prison.
