Quote: “We continue to actively work so that there are enough financial support programmes for Ukraine next year. This concerns both bilateral programmes with our partner states, and programmes on the EU level, and the process of using and confiscating Russian assets frozen in different jurisdictions.
And this issue concerning frozen assets was one of those important decisions discussed at the talks this week, specifically, in the US.
The G7 countries can demonstrate their leadership – the assets of the terrorist state and of the individuals connected with it must be used to support Ukraine and protect people from the Russian terror. It will be fair. And we are already preparing necessary decisions”.
Background:
- According to Financial Times, the US discussed within the G7 group that there is a way to confiscate sovereign Russian assets, which corresponds to the international law, and the discussions had grown more frequent over the last few weeks.
- On 12 December, the European Commission approved the proposal of a bill about using the income from frozen Russian assets for rebuilding Ukraine, which was considered by the European Council on 14 December.
