Details: According to the channel, 556 people spoke in favour of Strelkov’s nomination (with the necessary minimum being 500 signatures).
At the same time, protocols in support of Strelkov were signed without a notary to certify the signatures.
Quote: “We’ll do everything tomorrow, today it didn’t work out with the notary, but tomorrow we will notarise it. Today, unfortunately, we couldn’t,” said Strelkov’s wife Miroslava Reginskaya.
Four notaries with whom the initiative group had an agreement to issue signatures declined to take part in the meeting, the organisers of Strelkov’s campaign headquarters said, as reported by the SOTAvision project.
Representatives of the initiative group also offered to send the missing documents via Telegram.
The Ostorozhno, novosti Telegram channel notes that representatives of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation “did not show their presence [at the meeting] in any way – it is unlikely that they will be able to accept such documents”.
Background:
- Igor Strelkov (Girkin) has been detained since July for public calls to extremism. The formal reason for the case was two posts in Strelkov’s Telegram channel regarding occupied Crimea and payments to servicemen deployed on the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine. On 14 December, the Moscow City Court began its consideration of the Strelkov case.
- In mid-November, Strelkov asked his associates to start a campaign to nominate him as a presidential candidate.
- In early December, Girkin said he is afraid of repeating the fate of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the former leader of the Wagner Group, who was supposedly killed in a plane crash.
