Davyd Arakhamiia, leader of the Servant of the People party’s parliamentary faction, has stated that the Cabinet of Ministers was supposed to submit a draft law on mobilisation to the Parliament on 25 December and announced that the military leadership had requested the mobilisation of 500,000 military personnel.

Quote: “The government was supposed to submit a draft law on mobilisation today (25 December), which they have been working on at the military’s request.
I hope that colleagues from the Cabinet of Ministers will finish their part of the work soon. The absence of this draft law leads to uncertainty and many fakes about [handing people call-up notices at] checkpoints, [or via] Diia (Diia, or ‘Action’, is a mobile app, a web portal and a brand of e-governance in Ukraine – ed.) and so on.
The work algorithm has not changed. The military command has submitted a request to mobilise 500,000 military personnel. The government is developing the rules.”
Details: He said the Parliament expects a ready document that can be discussed in the Verkhovna Rada committee, “The military needs a resolution to their problems. Society wants answers to all sensitive questions”.
Arakhamiia also mentioned President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who “demands a comprehensive approach to military service”. “Simply recruiting new people and not solving the problems of those serving now is not a solution.”
Background:
- Ukraine’s Defence Ministry is considering using electronic call-up notices to inform men, including Ukrainian citizens living abroad, that they should report to military enlistment offices.
- Ukrainian military officials proposed at a recent meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff that an extra 450,000-500,000 people should be mobilised, but the issue is still being worked on, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
