Russians launch nearly 50 Shahed UAVs on New Year’s Eve, less than half were shot down

On the last night of the year, Ukrainian defenders shot down 21 of the 49 assault drones launched by Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine.

Quote: “On the night of 30-31 December 2023, Russian invaders attacked with assault UAVs of the Shahed type from three directions: Cape Chauda (Crimea), the Primorsko-Akhtarskaya district and Kursk Oblast of the Russian Federation.
In total, 49 Shahed-136/131 enemy drones were recorded. The enemy also struck the city of Kharkiv with six S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles.
The enemy directed most of the strike drones along the front line of defence, as well as at civilian, military and infrastructure facilities of the frontline territories, in particular in the Kharkiv Oblast, Kherson Oblast, Mykolaiv Oblast and Zaporizhzhia.
In different regions of Ukraine, units of mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces, fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force destroyed 21 Shahed drones of the enemy.”
