Mine in Donetsk Oblast suffers power outage after Russian attack, miners spend 16 hours underground

A mine in Donetsk Oblast lost power following a Russian attack on 5 January. As a result, 17 mine workers were forced to spend 16 hours underground.

Details: The power outage at the mine occurred on 5 January as a result of a substation losing power. There were 17 people inside at the time.

After spending roughly 16 hours underground, all mine workers were finally brought to the surface on 6 January.

The mine’s power supply has been restored.

Background: 

On 4 January, one of DTEK’s thermal power plants (TPPs) in the frontline area was once again attacked by Russian troops.

On 24 December, one of the units of a thermal power plant (TPP) in Donetsk Oblast experienced an emergency shutdown due to hostilities, and a 330kV line belonging to Ukrenergo, a Ukrainian national power company, was damaged.
