The US Department of Defence has commented on the Inspector General’s report on problems with the accounting of military assistance to Ukraine, noting that there is no credible evidence that US weapons have fallen into the wrong hands.

Details: “To answer your question, at this time there remains no credible evidence of illicit diversion of U.S.-provided, advanced conventional weapons from Ukraine,” he said.

Instead, the US Defence Department spokesman added, “We do see some instances of Russia continuing to spread disinformation to the contrary”.

“But the fact is, as we observe the Ukrainians employing these capabilities on the battlefield, we’re seeing them use them effectively for all the obvious reasons,” Ryder added.

An earlier report by the US Department of Defence Inspector General found that the department failed to promptly or fully account for nearly 40,000 weapons intended to help Ukraine since 2014.

This amount represents approximately 2% of the total $50 billion in military assistance that Ukraine has received from the United States.

In November, US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said that the embassy’s representatives, who monitor the use of military, humanitarian and other aid to Kyiv, have not recorded any cases of misuse.
