Bridget Brink, US Ambassador to Ukraine, has said that the United States seeks to sign a security agreement with Ukraine, commenting on the news that such an agreement has been signed with the UK.

Details: Ambassador Brink stressed that reaching such an agreement is an objective that the US president has set. “As President Biden has said, we are committed to helping Ukraine defend itself and deter future aggression.”
Quote: “We have already started bilateral consultations with your government, with the office of the president, with government agencies, and we are discussing with them what the security commitments on our part could be. So far, there have been two rounds, and the talks will continue: the Biden administration seeks this agreement.”
With negotiations ongoing, Brink did not disclose the general structure or potential content of the future agreement. She did, however, emphasise that the US supports NATO membership for Ukraine, and that the security agreement serves as a “bridge to ensure security” until that happens.
“The G7 announced support for security guarantees, bilateral and multilateral, that will be such a bridge,” she recalled.
Rishi Sunak and Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a security agreement between the UK and Ukraine, which will be valid until Ukraine joins NATO, during the UK prime minister’s visit to Kyiv on 12 January.
A separate part of the agreement covers actions in the event of a future armed attack by Russia.
It was also reported that Zelenskyy and Sunak appeared to hold differing views on whether it could be called an agreement on security guarantees.
