EU foreign minister says EU countries have agreed on use of Russian frozen assets

EU foreign minister Josep Borrell said that a political agreement has been reached between the EU member states regarding the use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets.

According to Josep Borrell, on Wednesday EU ambassadors should greenlight the decision to first save the funds on a separate account and then use them to support Ukraine.
Previously, Borrel stated that Ukrainians should not worry about the possible weakening of support from the European Union despite the shift in focus on resolving the conflict in the Middle East.
Background: On 1 February, EU leaders at their summit plan to make a political decision on a four-year package of financial assistance to Ukraine worth €50 billion.
According to press reports, on the eve of the EU summit this week, work will begin on a new plan to unblock tens of billions of dollars, which will help to increase the volume of military assistance for Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz hopes to use the EU summit on 1 February to urge member states to send more weapons to Ukraine.
