Call for a Minimum 75 percent Tobacco Tax Increase to Motivate Smoking Cessation

Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health (COSH) urged the Government to increase tobacco tax by at least 75 percent to meet the World Health Organization’s (WHO) standard that tobacco tax should account for 75 percent or above of cigarette retail price and subsequent annual tax hikes, to ultimately safeguard people from hazards of smoking.
