President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that ending the war via a diplomatic settlement is only possible under the Ukrainian peace formula, which calls for the liberation of all Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia and a return to the country’s 1991 borders.

Quote: “What I insist upon is that we don’t settle for new Minsk-style agreements (the Minsk agreements being ultimately unsuccessful treaties seeking to create a ceasefire in the occupied Donbas region) pertaining to other [occupied] areas of our territory. No new frozen conflicts. We don’t believe in that. And I don’t trust [Vladimir Putin to uphold his end of the deal]. We will bring to the negotiating table a proposal based on [the Ukrainian] peace formula taking into account proposals from other countries; once we have the documents ready we will then implement a diplomatic formula through which we will talk to representatives of Russia.”
Details: According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine will be in a strong position to negotiate when it engages in diplomacy with Russia.
“In our strong position, we will have one very important diplomatic route: a document. When we’re ready, it doesn’t matter what our situation is like at the time. If we remain strong in every aspect, and if we can put forward a document with most of the big countries; the important countries; the decision-makers of the world on our side, then of course we can engage in political negotiations,” Zelenskyy said.
