Ukrainian athlete Kovtun wins stage of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup

Ukrainian Illia Kovtun has won the stage of the World Cup in artistic gymnastics in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Illia scored the same number of points in his performance as the Olympic champion from Tokyo in this discipline, the Chinese athlete Zou Kai (14,900). However, the latter received a higher execution score.
The bronze medalist of the tournament was Colombia’s Angel Carabas, with 14,700 points. Another Ukrainian, Oleh Verniaiev, took the 5th place (14,566).
Background:
- Kovtun and Verniaiev secured two medals at the World Cup stage in Cottbus, as they did in the previous stage in Cairo.
- Illia also competed in the floor exercise, where he finished eighth (13,366 points). Ihor Radivilov, unfortunately, couldn’t contend for medals either. He also claimed the eighth position in the rings competition (13,166).
