Every March, activists of the Yellow Ribbon resistance movement conduct actions in order to attract attention to the non-violent resistance of common Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories.
In 2024, the information campaign is called The Flag of Ferocity. Its goal is to make the resistance against the occupation in the Russian-occupied territories visible.
The organisers also want to engage more people in the support for Ukrainians in the occupied territories who have believed in Ukraine’s victory for all these years and those who keep fighting.
“The yellow colour symbolises the fight. It can be seen in the Flag of Ferocity action that its fragments differ in tone. They symbolise each of the temporarily occupied regions and their resistance: the longer the occupation is, the fiercer is the fight that goes on there, and the brighter the flag is,” the members of the movement explained.

Famous Ukrainians joined the action this year: chef Yevhen Klopotenko, actor and TV host Serhii Prytula, choreographer Yevhen Kot, comedian Vasyl Baidak, singer Pavlo Zibrov, the bands KALUSH and Latexfauna, as well as other influencers.
They urged their audience to raise the flag of fierce fight instead of and for those who live in the occupied territories and cannot do it openly so far.
“We call upon all Ukrainians in Ukraine-controlled territories to raise the Flag of Ferocity in order to show their support for the people who are waiting to be liberated against all odds.
We are asking you to share the videos dedicated to the resistance of every region, which is so far occupied, so that more and more people know: the resistance against the occupation is ongoing,” the Yellow Ribbon added.
Resistance movement in Donetsk Oblast
The Flag of Ferocity is held on the Week of Resistance which is traditionally celebrated at the beginning of March. It was during this period in 2022 that large-scale pro-Ukrainian actions were held in the temporarily occupied territories, where the residents demonstrated the inability of the Russian occupiers to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people to the world.
In addition to this, the largest demonstration in Ukraine was held in March. It was held in 2014 in the city of Donetsk and was called “10 000 brave ones for 45 million united ones”. Sadly, this action was the last peaceful meeting in the city.
