UK Defence Intelligence has analysed the situation in frontline Donetsk Oblast, where a slowdown in the advance of Russian occupying forces is being observed.

Details: The review noted that Russian troops continue to advance on several parts of the front, with operations concentrated west of the settlements of Avdiivka and Marinka (Donetsk Oblast). These areas accounted for 60% of reported Russian attacks over the past four weeks.

However, the UK MoD pointed out that the average number of reported weekly Russian attacks has decreased by 60% since the end of February 2024, a time when the weekly average reached 600.

Russia seized Avdiivka and several villages west of the town in February but has since slowed its advance.

“It is highly likely that the overall situation will be challenging for Ukrainian forces in coming weeks with Russia continuing to regenerate forces and carry out attacks on priority axes,” the review stressed.

Background: Earlier, UK intelligence noted that Ukrainian troops had started to build up defensive positions in several frontline areas at an accelerated pace.

The UK MoD also warned that Russia could be preparing to deport Ukrainians from territories it currently occupies.
