Quote: “We consider such accusations to be a planned provocation by the Kremlin to further fuel anti-Ukrainian hysteria in Russian society, create conditions for increased mobilisation of Russian citizens to participate in the criminal aggression against our country, and discredit Ukraine in the eyes of the international community.”

Details: The ministry reminded us that the Russian regime has a long history of orchestrating bloody provocations by the special services, such as the terrorist attack on the Kashirskoye highway in 1999.

Quote: “There are no red lines for Putin’s dictatorship. It is ready to kill its own citizens for political purposes, just as it has killed thousands of Ukrainian civilians during the war against Ukraine as a result of missile attacks, artillery shelling and torture.”

Details: The Foreign Ministry urged the international community to strongly reject Russia’s false accusations of Ukraine’s alleged involvement in the shooting in Krasnogorsk and to strengthen support for Ukraine in countering Russia’s criminal aggression.

Background:

  • Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, commented on the shooting near Moscow, claiming that “if it is established that these are terrorists affiliated with the Kyiv regime”, they should be “ruthlessly exterminated as terrorists”.
  • The shooting incident occurred prior to a concert by the band Piknik at the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast, on the evening of 22 March. Early reports say at least 40 people are dead and 130 injured.
  • Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) stated that the terrorist attack was a deliberate provocation by Putin’s regime that had been anticipated by the international community.
  • The White House said it saw no evidence of any Ukrainian involvement in the attack, which has claimed the lives of dozens of people.
  • Mykhailo Podoliak, advisor to the Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, has stated that Ukraine has nothing to do with the attack.
