Details: ISIS issued a statement on the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall, where it described it as “the most brutal attack in recent years.” This message was released by the pro-ISIS agency Amaq, according to the SITE group, which monitors terrorists’ activities on social media.

The statement reads that three militants opened fire on people in the audience hall, while the fourth set the building on fire. It is claimed that the terrorists were armed with machine guns, pistols, and containers with incendiary mixture. Before the attack, they had been observing the Crocus building for a long time.

It is mentioned that ISIS militants were planning to attack a “large crowd of Christians.” Members of the group emphasised that the terrorist attack was organised in response to the war declared by ISIS against countries fighting Islam.

A photo of the attackers was also published. The Insider notes that the colour, cut, and print on the clothing of two of the militants in the picture match the clothing of the detainees reported by the FSB.

Brief, a Telegram channel, posted photos of the detainees and compared them with the picture posted  by Amaq. It is likely that the three attackers have been identified from the photo.

The Russian Internal Affairs Ministry said that all four suspects involved in the terrorist attack were foreign nationals.

Background:

  • A shooting incident occurred at a concert by the band Piknik at the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast, on the evening of 22 March.
  • Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) stated that the terrorist attack was a deliberate provocation by Putin’s regime that had been anticipated by the international community. Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, stated that Ukraine had nothing to do with the attack.
  • The White House said it saw no evidence of any Ukrainian involvement in the attack, which has claimed the lives of dozens of people.
  • Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that a “back door” had been prepared for the suspects in the attack to cross the border with Ukraine. Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence responded by saying that these claims are entirely devoid of truth.
  • The United States has no doubt that ISIS was involved in the terrorist attack on a concert in the suburbs of Moscow on the evening of 22 March and had warned Russia in advance of the threat of such a terrorist attack.
