Volgograd refinery resumes operation of unit damaged by drone attack on 12 May

The Volgograd oil refinery, owned by Lukoil Oil Company, has resumed operations after being damaged in a drone attack on 12 May.

Details: It is noted that the refinery, with a production capacity of 300,000 barrels per day, caught fire on 12 May after a drone attack. Then, the agency’s sources noted that the CDU-1 unit was damaged.

“The CDU-1 unit has a capacity of 18,590 metric tons per day, and annual production of 6.5 million metric tons, or 130,000 bpd, of oil. It makes up 43% of the refinery’s capacity and accounted for 49% of actual refinery processing in the first quarter of 2024,” the report says. 

Drones previously attacked the refinery in February of this year, but it was able to perform maintenance within 18 days.

Background: On the morning of 12 May, it became known about a fire at the Volgograd oil refinery as a result of a drone crash.
