Details: It should be noted that the Skills Alliance for Ukraine has been established by the governments of Ukraine and nearly 50 other countries, in collaboration with funders, international partners, and business leaders. The purpose of the initiative is to provide more than 180,000 people with the opportunity to obtain a qualification or requalification during the next three years, during which €700 million will be allocated for educational requirements.

According to the government, structural unemployment is currently prevalent in Ukraine’s labour market. It is most noticeable in industries that are critical to recovery, such as construction, transportation, IT, engineering, and healthcare. To address these issues, the Skill Alliance was formed.

The majority of the funding will go towards training young people, internally displaced persons, and women in the country. However, Ukrainians who live abroad will soon have access to it as well.

The Skills Alliance is being implemented under the framework of the Ukraine Facility, which includes improvements aimed at improving vocational education, learning, and access to short-term training courses.

According to sources, the initiative will aid Ukraine’s integration into the EU by improving mutual recognition of credentials obtained abroad and putting standards in line with EU legislation.

Background:

  • Ukraine will receive €1.9 billion under the Ukraine Facility plan by the end of June.
  • In 2024, the Ukraine Facility programme will provide between €1 billion and 1.5 billion to support businesses. Of this, 70% will be directed at small and medium-sized businesses.
