Russia’s participation in peace process remains key issue – Swiss Federal Council head

Viola Amherd, the Head of the Swiss Federal Council, has stated that the first Peace Summit made it possible to achieve a common vision for combined work on nuclear security, food security, and the humanitarian dimension in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Source: Amherd, in her final speech at the Peace Summit in Bürgenstock, writes Interfax-Ukraine news agency, as reported by European Pravda

Details: She emphasised that, for the first time at the highest level, the participants discussed peace in Ukraine rather than weapons and conflict, which, in her opinion, lends fuel to the peace process, despite the existence of opposing views.

Quote: “One fundamental question remains: how and when will Russia get involved in this process? That’s something we’ve heard you say several times. Both parties should participate in a fundamental decision,” Amherd stated.

According to her, the high-level involvement of so many states and organisations facilitated the start of a broad discourse and the creation of shared ideas about Ukraine’s path to peace.

“We were able to reach a common vision here in Bürgenstock… We convey a clear message to the people of Ukraine and all those directly impacted by the consequences of the war, that a large section of the world community wants to bring about change,” she added.
