Recovering from the horror: 10 more Ukrainian children brought back to Ukraine-controlled territories – photos

Ten more Ukrainian children have been successfully brought back from the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

According to Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada (Parliamentary) Commissioner for Human Rights, their families made the decision to leave their homes in order to save the young Ukrainian citizens’ lives and safeguard their futures.

During their time living under Russian occupation, the children witnessed the aggressor’s brutality at first hand. The families said the self-proclaimed authorities carried out mass forced mobilisation in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territory.

“The children saw with their own eyes how the Russians would conduct searches in their homes without grounds. And the mother of one of the boys said they lived in a house damaged by a Russian shell,” says the Ombudsman.

The Russians also refused to provide medical care to anyone who did not have a Russian passport.

Parents were forced to take their children to Russian schools, where they were required to sing the Russian national anthem every Monday as part of an attempt to indoctrinate the students.

Some were able to study at Ukrainian educational institutions, but their families feared that their children would be taken away.

Now the little Ukrainians and their families are safe. Experts have already documented the crimes committed against them, witness statements, and the victims’ experiences.
