Bulgaria considers providing Ukraine with €80 million at the NATO meeting, if the parliament agrees.

Details: According to Bulgaria’s temporary Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, this or any other amount will become a reality after parliamentary approval.

Quote: “Our main goal is to protect our national interests as a NATO ally,” Dimitar Glavchev said without specifying what exactly this amount would be allocated for.

At the same time, Boyko Borissov, the leader of GERB-SDS (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria and the Union of Democratic Forces), stated that Sofia will not provide financial assistance to Kyiv.

Delyan Peevski, co-chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party, responded by explaining that Glavchev and Borissov’s words did not contradict each other.

“This money will not be given by Bulgaria to Ukraine, it will be deducted from the sums Bulgaria receives for the arms it supplies Kyiv with,” he said.

The GERB party’s minority government failed to gain enough support in the Bulgarian parliament yesterday, putting the country closer to its seventh general election in three years and raising tensions among MPs.

Bulgaria has had six parliamentary elections in recent years, taking place in April 2021, July 2021, November 2021, October 2022, April 2023, and June 2024.

Borissov’s party won the previous election but did not achieve a majority.
