Details: The head of government says he sincerely believes that Sofia should stand for peace talks in which Bulgaria will act as a mediator.

Quote from Dimitar Glavchev: “What could be better than that? And that is what I will propose; there is no problem.”

At the same time, he expressed uncertainty about the chances that his country will be recognised as a mediator.

Quote: “I will present a good offer, but it requires agreement for us to be recognised as mediators. It is essential to emphasise that these peace negotiations must align with the UN Charter and international law.  These are conditions which, in my opinion, are non-negotiable.”

Background:

  • NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that to reach a solution to peace in Ukraine, its members must provide Ukraine with military support, which he added is exactly what the countries of the Alliance are doing.
  • During Orbán Viktorʼs visit to Moscow on Friday, the Hungarian prime minister said that at a meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, he asked him three questions related to the war he unleashed against Ukraine.
  • The Hungarian Prime Minister also said that during his trips to Moscow and Kyiv, he realised that the positions of both sides regarding the war of conquest unleashed by the Russian Federation “are very far apart“.
