Lithuania transfers €1 million for Okhmatdyt hospital restoration after Russian strike

Lithuania has transferred €1 million to restore the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, which was hit by a Russian missile during the massive attack on 8 July, as well as other affected hospitals.

Quote: “The government has just allocated €1 million to support the restoration of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv and other medical facilities deliberately and barbarically attacked by Russia,” Šimonytė stated. 

“The only way to stop a terrorist state is to increase support for Ukraine’s victory. The only fair way to support Ukraine’s recovery is to make the aggressor pay,” she added.

Background:

  • Earlier, Rémi Duflot, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Ukraine, stated that the EU would help Ukraine rebuild the Okhmatdyt hospital which was struck with a Russian missile on 8 July.
  • Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, in a phone conversation with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, condemned the attack and offered to accept patients from Okhmatdyt for treatment.
  • German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach stated that Germany is ready to accept Ukrainian children for treatment following Russia’s strike on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital.
  • The Hungarian opposition party Tisza leader Péter Magyar condemned the Russian missile attack on Ukraine on 8 July, announced a fundraising campaign and his trip to Ukraine with a shipment of medical equipment following the attack on Okhmatdyt.
