Zelenskyy initiates bill on depriving state awards of individuals supporting Russia

Pravda Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, has proposed a measure to deprive individuals of their state awards if the holders popularised or promoted Russian narratives, or engaged in other criminal actions against Ukraine.

Quote: “I introduced a bill that can restore justice in questions of who we honour and who, as a result of their own acts, has lost the right to be respected by Ukrainians. This is a bill modifying the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and other Ukrainian legislative acts pertaining to the loss of state awards for popularising or propagating the aggressor state’s illegal actions against Ukraine.

This applies to those who obtained Ukrainian official awards such as the Hero of Ukraine, the Order of Merit, and others but did not choose to serve Ukraine – instead, they chose [to back] the enemy and now support Russia in some form or another, or are even on its soil.

We need a legal mechanism to deprive such individuals of all Ukrainian official awards and honorary titles. They only deserve one ‘title’: a traitor. And their ‘reward’ will be what they pay to Ukraine and our people for everything they have done to undermine Ukraine, our state, and independence. I request that the Verkhovna Rada (the parliament – ed.) review this law in the near future.”

Details: In addition, Zelenskyy signed a decree on awarding state awards to 266 soldiers of various units of the defence forces of Ukraine.
