A 39-year-old man was found unconscious with a pistol next to him on grassland near Muk Min Ha Tsuen on Route Twisk at around 11.44 am on Monday, police said in a statement that evening.

The man, who had a gunshot wound to his head, was identified as a police constable attached to the Tsuen Wan District. A suicide note was also found at the scene. The officer was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead at 12.26 pm.

Police said it was suspected that the constable had taken his own life with his service pistol. A post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the cause of death, police said.

“Police express sorrow and regret over the death of the police officer and extend sympathies to his family members to whom timely assistance will be offered,” a police statement read.

In mid-June, a 51-year-old officer was believed to have taken his own life with a service pistol at the police marine division base.
