Details: According to CNN, on Wednesday, the United States will announce a number of steps aimed at countering the Kremlin’s interference. Among other things, the White House will announce public condemnation, and the Department of Justice will announce measures aimed at holding the subjects of interference accountable.
Sources of the CNN say that the main topic they will discuss is the Russian propaganda channel of foreign broadcasting RT, as well as Russia’s disinformation operations, which are carried out both through American and non-American subjects.
Also, CNN writes, the United States may announce involvement in the interference in the elections of the Social Design Agency, which is already under sanctions due to the creation of fake information sites in Europe.
As stated in the article, this will be Washington’s most significant reaction to possible Russian operations of influence on American voters.
It comes after the US accused Iran in August of attempting to interfere in Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’ election campaigns, citing accusations by the Republican presidential contender that Iranian hackers had gotten access to internal email.
US intelligence has already stated that foreign adversaries of the United States will attempt to influence the presidential election in November 2024, tailoring their activities to domestic political developments in the country.
