Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the Russians have launched their “rapid offensive” in Russia’s Kursk Oblast but have not yet achieved any serious progress.

Quote: “The Russians have started their rapid offensive on the Kursk front; they want to deploy about 60,000 to 70,000 people there. We know of about 40,000 people deployed there. They wanted quick breakthroughs… They are doing it, but we have yet to see any serious successes. Ukrainian soldiers are holding on heroically and doing everything it takes for our other military and political steps.”

Details: Zelenskyy said that the operation in Kursk Oblast has resulted in a decrease in the number of attacks in Donbas.

“Over the past week, the situation on the Pokrovsk front has become slightly more balanced. These are things that are parallel to the situation in Ukraine, or part of our operation in enemy territory in Kursk Oblast. These are related things. For example, we can see that the number of shells used in Donbas, in Pokrovsk, before the Kursk operation began, was 1 to 12… today it is 1 to 2.5. It hasn’t levelled out yet, and we still need more weapons than the Russians.”

Background: On 5 September, Zelenskyy said that Russia has deployed 60,000 troops in Kursk Oblast due to the success of Ukraine’s Kursk operation.
