Details: Syrskyi stated that he convened a meeting on soldier quality training with the participation of heads of Ukrainian military administration bodies involved in training, commanders of combat brigades, and heads of training centres.

Quote: “We discussed and worked out solutions to problems affecting the quality of military personnel training. The directions for improving educational programmes were analysed.

Instructors play an important role in ensuring the quality of training. As a result, we focus heavily on obtaining dedicated instructors with combat experience. We are also exploring the idea of establishing a School of Instructors, which will be the primary and sole source of qualitatively trained instructors.

We’re working to extend the duration of basic combined arms training. The corresponding project will be launched in October-November of this year.

We are still working to improve the quality of training for military personnel in training centres.”

Background:

  • Basic military training will replace military duty for Ukrainian citizens beginning 1 September 2025. It must involve all men between the ages of 18 and 24, who are not yet subject to mobilisation. Women can choose to participate.
  • The basic military training entails a three-month term during martial law. One month will be dedicated to basic combined arms training, followed by two months of professional training.
  • Basic combined weapons training will be accessible in higher education institutions and military educational facilities. It will have to be included in the curriculum as a separate discipline.
