Quote from Peskov: “Such a demonstrative desire not to take the statements of the Russian president seriously is a completely short-sighted and unprofessional move.”

Details: Peskov said that “this position is extremely provocative and dangerous.”

Background:

  • Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russia using long-range weapons would imply the direct involvement of Western countries in the war, since Ukraine is apparently unable to find targets on its own without Western intelligence.
  • NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the decision to allow Ukraine to launch long-range strikes on Russian territory would depend on individual allies. He also stressed that there are always risks in war, but the biggest risk for Europe is a Russian victory in Ukraine.
  • UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also responded to Putin’s threats by stating that it was the Russian leader who started the war in Ukraine, and he could end it at any moment.
  • The EU stated that Putin’s threats would not change the European Union’s position on supporting Ukraine.
