Zelenskyy: We don’t have much time, next few months will be decisive

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking at the American Academy of Achievements’ Golden Plate Award ceremony, has stated that time should not be wasted because the next few months will be critical in Russia’s battle with Ukraine.

Quote: “We don’t have much time. The next few months will be decisive. Ahead of us in this war – Russia’s war against Ukraine and all of you, because this is Russia’s war against freedom itself – we are short of time to define what the outcome will be. And we must define it. Not Russia, not their bloody allies. We need to be faster. We need not to lose the next few months in war, so that we don’t lose the next decades.”
Details: The President recalled the Victory Plan, which he introduced to the United States. “And I will present this Plan to America – first of all to President Biden, to Congress and to both Presidential candidates – Kamala Harris and Donald Trump – and all our global allies. And I believe this must be our shared achievement – victory for freedom, with no compromises at freedom’s expense,” Zelenskyy stated.
Zelenskyy also stressed that “the world today does not allow us to lose a single battle when on one side is freedom, and everything we would never wish for our children is on the other.”
Background:
- On his way to the US, Zelenskyy declared in his address that he planned to propose the Victory Plan to President Joe Biden and other leaders of partner countries. “This autumn will determine what comes next in this war. Together with our partners, we can strengthen our positions as needed for our victory – our shared victory – for a truly just peace,” he stated.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit the US and present his Victory Plan to President Joe Biden during a meeting in Washington DC on 26 September. Zelenskyy also hopes to explain the plan to presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
- Bloomberg reported that the Victory Plan envisages an invitation for Ukraine to join NATO and a commitment from the US to provide constant supplies of modern weapons.
- Zelenskyy further noted that the Victory Plan outlines decisions that are expected to be made between October and December 2024.
- On the eve of his visit to the United States, Zelenskyy said that the possibility of US President Joe Biden not supporting Ukraine’s Victory Plan is “a horrible thought”, because that would lead to a very long war with a huge number of casualties.
