Tests on upgraded Ukrainian cargo ship Kapitan Antypov completed

The Austrian shipyard ÖSWAG has successfully completed tests on the Kapitan Antypov, an upgraded cargo ship belonging to the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company which is now ready to return to the Ukrainian port of Izmail.

Moskalenko said this is UDSC’s first major upgrade; previously, the enterprise had only repaired Soviet-era vessels.
Following the upgrade, the ship now has two new Mitsubishi main engines that meet Euro-5 environmental standards, a new launch system, and two new Volvo Penta diesel generators.
The Kapitan Antypov has also received a new engine cooling system, an automated oil level control system, an exhaust gas aftertreatment system, and more.
“The Kapitan Antypov can be considered a state-of-the-art ship because it meets ES-TRIN, the most modern European standard. Many European companies’ vessels that were built or upgraded 5-10 years ago do not comply with ES-TRIN,” Moskalenko added.
UDSC’s management intends to demonstrate the benefits of the upgrade to international donors in order to secure long-term funding on preferential terms. The company is currently awaiting a decision on the feasibility of a deal from Ukraine’s Ministry of Communities and Territories Development.
