Netherlands allocates €209.5 million to Ukraine to rebuild critical infrastructure

The Netherlands has announced a new support package for Ukraine worth €209.5 million, which will be directed toward restoring critical infrastructure.

Details: Veldkamp revealed the new €209.5 million support package, noting that it will be aimed at rebuilding critical infrastructure, including through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD),and providing humanitarian assistance.

In addition to this, the Netherlands will contribute €45 million to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine and finance the supply of necessary equipment.

Veldkamp emphasised that Ukrainians are preparing for one of the harshest winters and for Ukraine “to endure, it needs energy”.

Quote: “At today’s meeting with G7 Foreign Ministers and partners, including Ukraine’s [Foreign Minister] Andrii Sybiha, I stressed that we must join forces to provide this.”

Background: 

  • The G7 foreign ministers reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure and called on the international community to increase assistance to the country.
  • At the beginning of September, the European Commission announced the allocation of an additional €40 million for Ukraine amid constant Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
  • Recently, Katarína Mathernová, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, said that the EU believes that Ukraine, with its energy system battered by attacks, faces a difficult winter, but the situation will not be catastrophic.
