Russian military reconnaissance drone operators have begun installing rear-view cameras on their drones to detect threats from Ukrainian anti-aircraft FPV drones.

Details: Defense Express notes that it only took about two weeks from the idea of this technology to its implementation. The first known use of such a camera was when the Ukrainian military shot down one of the UAVs.

The photo of the downed drone, probably a ZALA 421, shows a miniature camera connected to a special Russian-made device equipped with antennas. The camera helps detect the approach of Ukrainian FPV drones, allowing the drone to try to avoid an attack.

Despite these technical innovations, reconnaissance UAVs cannot perform complex manoeuvres, so increasing their speed might be one possible way to avoid an attack.

Quote: “The overall effectiveness of such a solution remains in question. However, the very fact that the enemy quickly moved to the practical implementation of anti-aircraft FPV drone countermeasures is noteworthy. And the list of countermeasures will grow. For example, the enemy may try to install small electronic warfare systems on its reconnaissance UAVs.”
