The main building at Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin’s house in Sochi was demolished because he supposedly felt terrified to attend the area following Ukrainian drone assaults.

Details: Since 1991, Bocharov Ruchey has served as Putin’s official residence.

Journalists reported that the building at the residence was demolished in March. It has been replaced with a pit in which construction equipment operates.

At the same time, on 6 March 2024, the chairman of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, visited the Sochi residence. Putin met with him at another building, Bocharov Ruchey-2.

According to Proekt’s journalists, Putin has not visited Sochi or its neighbouring cities in seven months. This is a record for at least the last decade.

According to investigators, the Kremlin leader violated a long-standing custom by celebrating his suspected mistress Alina Kabaeva’s birthday on the Black Sea shore.

The media suggest that the main reason for such changes is fear, following repeated attacks by Ukrainian drones on the city and damage to an airport’s helipad.

Background:

  • Earlier, investigators revealed Putin had four residences: the Kremlin, Novo-Ogaryovo, Bocharov Ruchey, and Valdai (Novgorod Oblast).
  • In 2023, Proekt reported that a secret railway and a network of stations leading to his residences were built in Russia for Vladimir Putin.
