Quote from Yatsenko: “Sadly, the information about Viktoriia’s death has been confirmed.

We knew Viktoriia. In 2022, she was making materials at the coordination headquarters, so this is extremely sad news for us and for all Ukrainian journalism.”

Details: Yatsenko stated that it is still too early to discuss the circumstances surrounding Viktoriia’s death, as they are currently under investigation.

In addition, Yusov revealed on Thursday that Roshchyna was to be included in one of the next prisoner swaps. She was to be transferred to Lefortovo prison in Moscow in preparation for her release to Ukraine.

Quote from Yusov: “She was supposed to be at home soon; everything has been done for this.”

In a comment to Ukrainska Pravda, Andrii Yusov stated that there is no official confirmation from Russia at this time. Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence has received this information and is currently verifying it.

Background:

  • In March 2022, Roshchyna was captured by the Russians and held in the occupied city of Berdiansk for ten days.
  • On 25 July, Roshchyna left Ukraine for Poland, planning to travel to the occupied part of Ukraine’s east via Russia in three days.
  • Roshchyna disappeared on 3 August 2023 in the Russian-occupied territory from where she was making a report.
  • In May 2024, Russia admitted for the first time that it had detained Roshchyna. Russia’s Defence Ministry sent a letter of confirmation to her father, Volodymyr Roshchyn.
