Details: At the third round of talks, Ukraine’s delegation was led by Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President.

The statement of the President’s Office said that the parties discussed changes to the draft, agreed on its structure, and noted significant progress in approving key sections.

The delegations of Ukraine and the UK also approved a schedule of further steps to work on the text of the partnership agreement.

“This will be a historic document that will consolidate the main areas of our cooperation for the long term – from security to economy, from energy to culture and arts,” Zhovkva said.

Background:

  • The intention to conclude a 100-year partnership agreement between Ukraine and the UK was discussed during the visit by David Cameron, former UK Foreign Secretary, in May.
  • Rishi Sunak, former UK Prime Minister, said in January that his country was building a new partnership with Ukraine that would last for 100 years or more.
  • The future comprehensive long-term agreement will be based on the provisions of the 2020 Agreement on Political Cooperation, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership and the 2024 Agreement on Security Cooperation between Ukraine and the UK.
  • The first round of negotiations took place on 13 August, and the second on 28 August.
